In a bid to provide skill-based training for the youth in order to make them employable, courses in beautician and hair styling techniques were inaugurated under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) at Laures Edutech Academy on Monday.

The PMKVY is a flagship skill training scheme of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship under which skill-based training is imparted in the automotive, retail and beauty and wellness sectors.

As many as 35 people are undertaking the two courses in beautician and hair styling techniques, conducted by Laures Edutech Academy in association with Skill India, which is the nodal point through which the Central government scheme is being implemented.

“Through the skill-based courses, we hope to provide employability to persons who are not academically qualified.

They are expected to pay Rs. 1,000 at the beginning of the course and will be reimbursed for it when they pass the final exam and obtain a Skill India Certification,” said L. Muralikrishna, Managing Director of Kalyani Honda.

“The Skill India certification will enable them to find employment in many places. In the State, only two other nodal points in Chennai are offering these skill-based courses under the PMKVY for the beauty and wellness industry,” he added.

The first batch of the 200-hour skill-based training courses was inaugurated by Davamani Christober, Principal of The American College.
