The inaugural Servo Mechanics Cup cricket tournament, sponsored by Indian Oil Corporation and powered by The Hindu , will be held here on Sunday. The limited overs cricket tournament, played with tennis ball, is being organised for two-wheeler, four-wheeler and heavy vehicle mechanics.
The participants will be mechanics chosen in selection trials conducted on December 30. From over 800 entries, 300 participants underwent a rigorous selection process in which they impressed the selectors with both bat and ball. Twelve teams of 13 players each were chosen for the final showdown.
The tournament will be conducted at Al-Ameen Higher Secondary School Playground, Alagarkoil Road, Kodikulam, from 8.30 a.m. The preliminary rounds will be eight-over-a-side matches played on a round robin format. The semi-finals will have an additional two overs. The final will be a 12-over match.
Indian Oil will give away mementoes to participants of selection trials and trophies and cash prizes to the top three teams.
