The police and coastal security agencies, including the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) have stepped up coastal security to prevent any possible infiltration from Sri Lanka via sea route after serial bomb blasts rocked the island nation on Easter Sunday killing more than 150 people.
While stepping up security in all churches in the district, the police, ICG, marine police of the Coastal Security Group (CSG) tightened the security along the coastline and posted picketing at all possible ‘landing points’ in Danushkodi and other coastal areas. \
Patrolling has been stepped up and armed security has been posted at the fish landing centre at Danushkodi.
“We have stepped up vigil to prevent any possible infiltration from Sri Lanka,” Superintendent of Police Omprakash Meena said.
The police and the coastal security agencies have taken the precautionary measures as they suspected that those who were behind the serial blasts might try to escape by entering India.
After a woman officer in the rank of Tahisildar accessed poll related documents at the Madurai Medical College, the counting centre at Madurai, District Election Officer and Collector K. Veera Raghava Rao, accompanied by Mr. Omprakash Meena inspected the security arrangements at Anna University Engineering College, the counting centre for Ramanathapuram Lok Sabha constituency on Sunday.
A three tier round the clock security has been posted at the counting centre with Central Armed Police Force manning the inner circle where the strong rooms were located.
