Saduragiri toll up to 8

The death toll in the flash floods at the Saduragiri hill temple went up to eight with the rescue teams recovering two more bodies, including that of a 13-year-old girl, on Tuesday.

While the Fire service and police personnel ensured that close to 5,000 devotees were brought out safely during the last two days, the teams recovered six bodies till Monday and when it commenced its search operations on Tuesday, two more bodies were recovered.

The police said that the bodies of Saravanan (26), son of Anandan of Meenakshi Nagar, Pattinam Kathakarai, Ramanathapuram district and Muppidathi (13), daughter of Gurusami of Pudiyamputhur, Tuticorin district, were recovered and handed over to the relatives after post-mortem. A senior official in the Fire Department said hunt was on to search many missing persons.
