RTE Act not implemented in some schools, says outfit

June 16, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:45 am IST - MADURAI:

Members of the Tamil Puligal staged a demonstration on the Collectorate premises on Monday alleging non-implementation of the Right to Education (RTE) Act in a few schools in the city.

S. Perarivalan, State organising secretary, said that there were private schools in the city which had not filled the mandatory number of RTE seats.

“The seats are still lying vacant and the schools have taken no steps to fill them and encourage needy and deserving children to study in their institutions,” he alleged. In a petition, many schools were collecting special fees in the form of payments for books and stationery.
