Restructuring of Dindigul GH on the cards

The Dindigul Government Headquarters Hospital is heading for a massive restructuring, including introduction of outsourcing to enhance services to in-patients and to keep the surroundings clean and tidy. Various initiatives and strict action have been taken to scale down corruption and bribery, particularly in the maternity ward according to hospital sources here on Thursday.

To begin with, the hospital has decided to outsource lower-level works to manage manpower shortage.

At present, more than 100 posts of field-level staff like electricians, cooking staff, sanitary workers, maintenance staff and security personnel have been lying vacant for a long time in 10 major government hospitals in the district.

Initially, Government Hospitals in Dindigul and Palani will outsource kitchen work, electrical maintenance, plumbing and security to maintain them efficiently.

A total of 142 persons – 96 persons for Dindigul Government Hospital and 46 persons for Palani Government Hospital – will be hired for executing these works. On successful implementation of the outsourcing, this system will be implemented in other government hospitals in the district, said hospital sources.

At the same time, lower-level staff, particularly those in the maternity ward including maternity assistant, ward workers and other field staff who were in the post for a long time were shifted either to other wards or to other hospitals. One worker was shifted to Oddanchatram GH.

Such action was initiated in order to weed out bribery and corruption in the maternity ward, sources added.
