“Reconsider discontinuation of aid”

The Madras High Court Bench disapproved of the attitude of Pudukottai district administration in having abruptly discontinued grant of assistance to a visually challenged youth on the ground that he was residing along with his parents. Disposing of a writ petition filed by the youth V. Saravanan, who had been certified to be suffering from 100 per cent disability, Justice R. Mahadevan said that the reason cited for discontinuance of assistance was untenable since he would have to naturally depend upon his family. The judge directed Pudukottai Collector to dispose of a representation made by Saravanan in four weeks.
