Roadside eateries

Both sides of the Bypass Road, from Kalavasal to Palanganatham, are occupied by eateries. A majority of them serve substandard food. Because of these encroachments, people find it difficult to park the vehicles along the road. Food Safety officers and Corporation authorities should swing into action and control the mushrooming of such eateries.

G. Chittibabu,

Kudos to MP

It is really heartening to read that Madurai MP Su. Venkatesan has represented to the Union government that the name ‘Tejas Express’ for the express train operated between Madurai and Chennai be changed to ‘Tamil Sangam Rayil.’ In addition, it is also delightful to note that he has attended the World Tamil Research Conference in Chicago.

I wish to bring it to the notice of Mr. Venkatesan that the Department of Posts has omitted Tamil in the registration acknowledgement card, savings account forms etc. They now carry information only in Hindi and English. I request the MP to raise this issue in Parliament.

Water supply

It is pathetic to see women queuing up for long hours under a scorching sun to fetch a pot of drinking water from street taps. Many poor men carry two pots of drinking water on their bicycles from far off places. Given such a worsening water crisis, many affluent people have no qualms in sucking drinking water unlawfully from taps in their house by connecting it to an electric motor.

To prevent this unethical practice, a simple solution exists. Let the Corporation supply drinking water every day for one hour only dividing Madurai into 12 zones. During the hour of water supply, power supply must be suspended.

Bus stop

As a resident of Supraja Senior Citizens Home on the Samayanallur-Thenur Road, I request the Transport authorities to provide a bus stop near its main gate. As buses to and from MGR bus stand, Periyar bus stand and Anna bus stand pass through this road, such a step will help not only the old people but also the labourers working here. Senior citizens will be grateful to the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation if a bus stop is granted as soon as possible.
