The Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) celebrated its 54{+t}{+h}Raising Day at the Recruits Training Centre at Iluppaikudi in Sivaganga district on Saturday. The raising day is held annually to mark October 24 when the ITBP were raised in the year 1962 on the same day after the Chinese Aggression.

Austine Eapen, Deputy Inspector General, hoisted the force flag and addressed the cadets.

“The ITBP, which is a central armed police force which initially started with four battalions to guard the Indo-China Borders, has grown to 62 battalions and a strength of 90,000 troops,” he said.

Prizes were distributed to the cadets for various sporting competitions. A fair was also organised for the jawaans, trainees and families as part of the celebrations.
