A slew of passenger amenities, including a renovated information centre and touch screen facility, were commissioned at Madurai railway junction on Thursday.

Divisional Railway Manager A.K. Goel inaugurated the facilities in the presence of Additional Divisional Railway Manager V. Ajithkumar. The information centre has been renovated and provided with a small public address system to enable the Ticket Checking Staff, who are manning the counter, to provide details of arrival and departure of trains, including time and platform number, Mr. Goel said.

Passengers can also get other details such as coach position, and connecting train to various destinations from Madurai.

The touch screen facility would provide all train timings and reservation-related information.

Besides, the Deputy Station Manager (Commercial), who would be available at the information centre would help passengers in getting wheel-chairs, ticket refund certificates, redressing their grievances and arranging for medical assistance.

Mr. Goel also inaugurated the e-charting display system that would do away with the pasting of conventional printed charts of confirmed and reservation against cancellation (RAC) and waitlisted passengers.

“This is an eco-friendly facility since we will not use papers for displaying details. Two sets of six LCD display systems have been placed, one at the concourse and the other at first platform,” Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Govindapparaj said.

Two LCD screens have been placed — one on first platform and another near retiring rooms — to display availability of retiring rooms.
