DINDIGUL
Southern Railway Mazdoor Union and All India Railwaymen's Federation staged a protest at the railway junction here on Wednesday, seeking the removal of the Central Government order dated October 10 on privatisation of 150 express trains and 50 railway stations that have been running on profit.
“The government is attempting to sell a great public sector unit like the railways to private corporates, which will affect the common public. The ticket fares will go up manifold times and all subsidies and concessions will be cancelled. This move will also affect the employees,” said M. Moorthy, Dindigul branch secretary of SRMU and deputy chief ticket inspector.
“They are also attempting to remove people above 50 years of age. Eventually we will also become contract workers instead of employees. This will spell doom for railway workers,” he added.
