Power station official caught taking bribe

M. Mohanadoss, Assistant Engineer in Ash Handling Plant at the station, was caught red-handed while taking bribe of Rs. 10, 000 from M. Manikandan (34), a contractor. Officers of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption, Tuticorin, arrested him at the Tuticorin Thermal Power Station on Thursday.

Investigations carried out by the vigilance authorities revealed that Mr. Mohanadoss demanded a five percent payment of the bill amount for the works executed by the contractor.

The bill amount is Rs. 2.55 lakh. Bribe to the tune of Rs. 12,500 was demanded by Mr. Mohanadoss.

The sting operation was led by B. Thangasamy, Deputy Superintendent of Police, DVAC, Tuticorin, and A. Raju, Inspector accompanied him.

A case against the accused was booked under Section-7, Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. He was remanded to judicial custody under section 7 and 13 (2) read with 13 (1) (d) of Prevention of Corruption Act, subsequently.
