A speeding police vehicle mowed down two women near Kadayanallur in the district on Saturday in which one of the victims was killed on the spot.
A police patrol vehicle mowed down M. Ayeesha Beevi alias Mallika, 36, of Mela Chokkampatti and her relative D. Kansal Beevi, 40, even as they were waiting at the bus-stop on Saturday when the driver of the vehicle lost control.
While Ayeesha Beevi was killed on the spot, Kansal Beevi has been admitted to the hospital.
Demanding due compensation, villagers blocked vehicular traffic on Chokkampatti Road. After tahsilar of Kadayanallur Azhagappa Raja and the police officials pacified the protestors, the agitation was given up.
