Plea to earmark quota for Dalits

May 21, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:44 am IST - MADURAI:

The Dalit Liberation Movement has appealed to the government to quantify the percentage of posts reserved for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in the recruitment of 4,396 Laboratory Assistants for government schools in the State.

In a memorandum submitted to the Collector here on Wednesday, S. Karuppiah, State joint general secretary of the Movement, pointed out that there was no reference to reservation for SCs and STs in the advertisement released on May 31 for recruitment of Laboratory Assistants. The memorandum said that candidates with PG qualification and above had applied for the post, which required only SSLC qualification.

It wanted the government to quantify the reservation for SCs and STs and Arunthathiyars and also reconsider participation of candidates with PG qualification and above in selection process.
