The Madras High Court Bench here on Friday dismissed a public interest litigation petition seeking a direction to Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department to retrieve from encroachers hundreds of acres of immovable properties owned by temples across the State. A Division Bench of Justice R. Sudhakar and V.M. Velumani dismissed the case after recording the submission of Special Government Pleader VR. Shanmuganathan that the HR and CE department was already taking steps to retrieve the lands and augment the revenue of the temples.
