A public interest litigation petition filed before the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court has sought renewal of a project for construction of a flyover from P. P. Chavadi to Arasaradi on Theni Road here.
The petitioner, A. Pushparajan of Madurai, said that years ago a project was mooted for free flow of vehicles at Kalavasal junction. As part of the project, two bridges were to be built – one from Guru Theatre to Palanganatham on Dindigul-Madurai Bypass Road and the other from P.P. Chavadi to Arasaradi on Theni Road.
However, the government had only begun construction on Dindigul-Madurai Bypass Road, which was less congested than Theni Road. Apprehending that the other project might have been dropped, he sought a direction to the authorities concerned to take up the project on Theni Road as well.
A Division Bench of Justices M. Sathyanarayanan and B. Pugalendhi sought a response from the authorities and adjourned the hearing.
