Over 250 villagers from Kuttur and Kattuvelampatti, near here, picketed the Natham-Dindigul road on Friday, protesting that the ration supplies meant for them were allegedly sent back by the Taluk Supply Officer.

Nearly 500 people living in Kuttur, Kattuvelampatti and Veerappanaickenpatti, near Natham, have been going to a ration shop in Uluppagudi for buying their supplies. They had been seeking a ration shop in their area and had even passed a resolution on the same demand in the gram sabha meeting held recently.

On Friday, ration items was allegedly transported in a vehicle without official permission to Kuttur village. Knowing this, Taluk Supply Officer Ravi Kumar had stopped the vehicle midway and had sent it back. Following this, the angry villagers blocked the Natham to Dindigul road and traffic was affected for over an hour.

District-level officers from the State Civil Supplies Corporation and Natham police conducted talks with the villagers and assured them of ration supply after which the people dispersed.
