MADURAI

Residents of Panthadi, which comes under ward 74, staged a protest outside the Corporation Zonal office on Tuesday, protesting against inadequate water supply in their area.

The protesters were carrying empty pots to show their resentment. A resident of the area, Uma, said that their area perpetually lacks water supply. No attempt had been made to mitigate the problem despite repeated complaints to the local corporation office, she said.

Corporation officials, who later met the residents, said that the water pipelines laid in Panthadi were old that could allow high pressure supply. They said that some residents sank borewells, as a result of which the water table went down there. “The problem will be solved at the earliest,” promised a senior engineer of the ward.
