Over 54 lakh free laptops distributed: Minister

Over 54.42 lakh free laptops had been given to students in the State so far, said Minister for School Education K.A. Sengottaiyan on Sunday.

During an event to distribute free laptops to school students at Vins Christian Women's College of Engineering, the Minister said that the government would complete distributing laptops to all high school students by Monday. Laptops had been distributed to 24,736 higher secondary school students at a cost of ₹ 30.35 crore, he added.

He said that smart classes would be started at all government schools in Kanniyakumari by the end of September. As part of the initiative, classrooms would be equipped with a projector, internet connection and other equipment to access online resources.

Collector Prashant M. Wadnere, Special Representative of Tamil Nadu in Delhi Thalavai Sundaram, MLAs J.G. Prince, S. Rajesh Kumar and other officials were present.
