Officials from the Fisheries Department conducted the annual boat census across the district on Thursday.
They checked country craft for various documents, fitness and dimensions of boats, configuration of the engine, among others. The survey was conducted on country boats, fibreglass boats and catamarans.
Over 50 officials of the department from various districts including Tirunelveli, Kanniyakumari, Nagapattinam and Ramanathapuram fanned out to fishing hamlets across the district in separate teams.
At some places where the fishers had left for fishing, the survey was conducted in the evening after their return.
