Following denial of permission by the city police, a petition was filed before the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Friday seeking permission for the Vijayadasami procession and a meeting in Madurai by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.

The petitioner, M. H. Krishnan of the RSS, stated that in the past processions and meetings were held in a peaceful manner without any untoward incident. However, the city police had denied permission for the procession which was planned to be held with a music band from R. R. Mandapam to Ambika Theatre.

The petitioner further said that since the event had been held in the past, arrangements were made and invitations already printed for it. The police had denied permission for the event citing security reasons. The case has been posted for October 10.
