As part of the ongoing efforts to send relief materials to flood-affected Kerala, nine lorries carrying essential commodities worth ₹ 75.88 lakh were despatched from Madurai Collector’s office on Saturday.

Collector K. Veera Raghava Rao said the relief materials, donated by various organisations, volunteer groups and individuals, predominantly included 37.3 tonnes of rice, clothes, 29.8 tonnes of vegetables, medicines, and bedsheets.

Revenue officials from Madurai district are accompanying each lorry. According to officials, of the nine lorries, six will go to Thiruvananthapuram and remaining three will go to Idukki district.

The Collector said that collection of relief materials was in progress and more lorries would be sent once enough materials were collected.

The relief materials included three lorry-loads of items contributed by Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, a statement issued by the chamber said.
