This district, comprising eight taluks, is all set to get a new taluk with R.S. Mangalam as its headquarters after bifurcating Thiruvadanai.

After Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami made an announcement while addressing the MGR centenary celebrations here on November 25, 2017, a G.O. was passed creating the ninth taluk on Tuesday.

The Chief Minister would inaugurate the new taluk on August 2 through video conferencing from Chennai.

The new taluk would comprise 39 revenue villages – 37 from Thiruvadanai taluk, which had 98 revenue villages and two from Paramakudi taluk.

The taluk headquarter would have new tahsildars and deputy tahsildars.
