National lok adalats settle more than 2,500 cases

District courts and subordinate judicial courts in the two districts have settled more than 2,500 cases, including criminal compoundable and pre-litigation cases and awarded settlements for total amount of ₹ 3.47 crore to litigants in the national lok adalats held on Saturday.

In Ramanathapuram, 13 benches – six benches in the district court at the district headquarters and seven benches in taluk headquarters took up 4,272 compoundable criminal cases, motor accident claim original petitions, bank recovery, cheque bounces and matrimonial cases for settlement and disposed of 916 cases in the adalat, organised by the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA).

Principal District Judge A. Kayalvizhi, who is the chairman of DLSA, inaugurated the Lok Adalat and chaired a bench. Additional District Judge T.V. Anilkumar, Chief Judicial Magistrate M. Sivaprakasam, District Munsiff K.S. Rajesh Kumar, Sub-Judge V. Ramalingam, who is the secretary of DSLA, Sub-Judge M. Preetha, Judicial Magistrates G. Isakkiappan and R. Radhakrishnan chaired the other benches in the district court.

The benches awarded total compensation of ₹ 2.37 crore to the litigants. The other benches were held in the taluk headquarters of Paramakudi, Thiruvadanai, Rameswaram, Kamuthi and Mudukulathur. Advocates A. Selvaraj, N. Nagasharma, K. Kathiravan, G. Kesavan and B. Gopinathan and K. Sivakumar served as advocate members in the benches.

In Sivaganga, the lok adalat was inaugurated by Principal District Judge K.V. Senthurpandiyan, who is the chairman of DLSA. Twelve benches — six benches at the district court and six benches at the taluk headquarters in Karaikudi, Devakottai, Manamadurai, Tirupattur and Ilayangudi took up a total number of 2,328 cases and settled 1,627 cases. The benches awarded settlements to the tune of ₹ 1.10 crore, officials said.

The other benches in the district court were chaired by Additional District Judge V.V. Thaniarasu, Additional District Judge (family court) A. Subramanian, Chief Judicial Magistrate J. Radhika, Sub-Judge T.P. Vadivelu, who is the secretary of DLSA, Sub-Judge R. Selvakumar, District Munsiff V. Achuthan and Judicial Magistrate R. Lalitha Rani.

J. Sengole, R. Murugan, C. Kannan, M. Muthupandian, G. Saravanan and T. Udayakumar served as advocate members.
