A postgraduate student of Manonmaniam Sundaranar University allegedly committed suicide at her residence at Kamarajarpuram near Thadikkarankonam on Wednesday allegedly due to her inability to pay the tuition fee.

Police said E. Josephine, 23, asked her parents for money to pay the tuition fee. As her father Emmanuel reportedly could not give the money immediately, Josephine allegedly hanged herself in her house when her parents had gone out.

Keeriparai police sent the body to Government Kanniyakumari Medical College Hospital for a post-mortem.

Those in distress or having suicidal tendencies could seek help and counselling by calling State’s health helpline 104 or Chennai-based Sneha’s suicide prevention helpline 044-24640050.
