The marine police of Coastal Security Group have foiled attempts of ‘terrorists from red force’ from intruding into the land via sea route, off Thangachimadam in Rameswaram island under the ‘Operation Sagar Kavach’ on Thursday.

The district police, Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guard constituting the ‘blue force’ mounted surveillance in the coastal sub-divisions of Thiruvadanai, Ramanathapuram, Rameswaram and Kilakarai and stepped up vigil for attacks by ‘terrorists’ forming the red force.

When eight ‘terrorists’ from red force attempted to land near Thangachimadam coast via the sea route, the blue force, mostly members of the marine police intercepted their boat and arrested them. The red force, carrying dummy pistols and bombs were arrested before they land on the shores and reach the targets.

Besides, the blue force kept vigil at places of worship and vital installations including the Pamban Rail Bridge, Road Bridge, INS Parundu, the Indian Naval Air Station, gas power plants at Vazhuthur, the upcoming Uppur power plant, Sri Ramanathswamy Temple in Rameswaram and Erwadi Dargah.

As part of the precautionary measures, blue force men were deployed at vulnerable places such as Vivekanandar memorial at Kunthukal, television tower in Rameswaram and Arichalmunai, the eastern tip of the island. The blue force checked vehicles on East Coast Road and kept alert from Devipattinam to Thondi.
