Lodging civic complaints made easy

November 16, 2011 10:35 am | Updated 10:35 am IST - MADURAI:

Booking a complaint on civic problems in the city with Madurai Corporation has been made easier. All that the residents need to do is to call a toll-free number 1800 425 8445.

The Corporation has set up a complaint cell that will work between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. People can also call 0452 2537214 or 2537215 to register their complaints. On registering the complaint, they will be given an acknowledgement number.

Corporation Commissioner S. Natarajan said that complaints would be classified into 23 types and fed into a computer. The complaints would be passed on to the field staff concerned and his superior. “If the complaints are not redressed within two days, a fresh representation can be made. Providing the acknowledgement number will make it easier for the officials to take up the issue with the senior officials,” he said.

Residents can also know the action taken on their complaint by calling the complaint cell. The Commissioner or Deputy Commissioner would review the nature of complaints and action taken.

Mayor Squad

The Commissioner has also formed ‘Mayor Squad' to enquire into complaints of major irregularities and misdeeds in the functioning of the Corporation. People could take up the issues with Mayor V.V. Rajan Chellappa or the Commissioner over phone or through petitions.

Two teams of officials would discreetly enquire into the complaint and give report to the Mayor for further action. The Mayor would review the functioning of the squad during the first week of every month.
