Laptops to 2017-18 batch of higher secondary classes to be given soon: Minister

Higher secondary classes students of 2017-18 batch would be provided with free laptops by the Department of Education in the next three months, said Minister for Education, K.A. Sengottaiyan.

The announcement comes in the backdrop of students who have passed out of schools had been protesting at various places seeking the Government to distribute free laptops that were supposed to have been given to them during the last academic year.

He was addressing at 117th birth anniversary of former Chief Minister, K. Kamaraj, organised by Nadar Mahajana Sangam here on Sunday.

Mr. Sengottaiyan said that efforts were on for computerisation of Classes 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th with internet facility. Similarly, smart classrooms for classes 6, 7 and 8 would be provided, he added. The State government was also planning to provide tablets to students and also provision of science labs in 1,000 schools.

The Department of Education was focussing on providing special English coaching to students to make them speak fluently in English when they go out of Tamil Nadu seeking jobs.

Minister for Dairy Development, K.T. Rajenthra Bhalaji, Special Representative to Tamil Nadu at New Delhi, N. Thalavai Sundaram, party MLAs, M. Chandra Prabha, MSR Rajavarman, Nadar Mahajana Sangam leader, Karikolraj, participated.
