The family members of the victims of police firing during the anti-Sterlite protest here would get employment soon, said Collector Sandeep Nanduri.
Speaking to reporters here on Monday, Mr. Nanduri said the district administration, after holding talks with the families of the firing victims, had forwarded a list of persons to be provided employment as part of the compensation package. Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami was expected to make an announcement in this regard any time now.
A prosthetic leg for a youth whose leg was amputated due to a serious bullet injury would be fitted as per doctors’ advice and there was no delay in providing the right line of medical assistance to him, Mr. Nanduri said.
On the National Green Tribunal’s order for an inspection of Sterlite Copper premises by a team headed by a retried judge, the Collector said the team would visit the plant premises after two weeks and the district administration would extend all facilities to it.
He said the effluents released by Sterlite Copper into Uppar Odai had been removed and kept in a patta land. The chemical waste had been isolated with the construction of a compound wall around it, he added.
