Karunas meets Collector, decides to visit constituency

Thiruvadanai MLA Actor Karunas, who has not been visiting the constituency for nearly two years, citing ‘safety reasons’, has decided to visit the constituency frequently in the next two years after Collector K Veera Raghava Rao assured full cooperation.

Mr. Karunas, who heads ‘Mukkulathor Pulipadai’, said he had stopped visiting the constituency after the district police removed armed police guard to him and after he received inputs that there could be law and order problem and loss of lives if he visited the constituency.

Talking to reporters after calling on the Collector here on Monday, he said he had stopped visiting the constituency considering the overall interest of the people of the district. Now, after a detailed discussion with the Collector, he has decided to visit the constituency and serve the people, he said.

Mr Rao assured to convene a special meeting of officials of various departments to redress the grievances of the people of the constituency after he brought the list of grievances after meeting the people, he said.

Drinking water was the major problem being faced by the people, he said adding there were demands for old age pension, free house site pattas, roads and street lights, he said.

Asked about his earlier charge that Minister for Information Technology M Manikandan prevented him from discharging his duties, he said Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami had assured that there would be no interference from anyone and he could discharge his duties freely.

He had not approached Mr Manikandan seeking any personal favour in the past but would have no qualms about approaching him on issues concerning the people as he is the Minister from the district.

Asked about the demand for 40% commission on ‘Kudimaramathu’ works, the MLA said he would directly supervise the works in his constituency and ensure the works were implemented properly.
