Congress members, led by Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president Su. Thirunavukakrasar, staged a demonstration here on Thursday, condemning the Karnataka Governor for acting in a “partisan manner” by inviting the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to form the government in the State.
Speaking at the demonstration, Mr. Thirunavukkarasar said that the Congress and the Janata Dal (Secular), which formed a post-poll alliance, had a clear majority and the Governor should have invited them instead of the BJP.
Alleging that the Governor had acted as “BJP person” and not as the Constitutional head, he said, “When the BJP has only 104 MLAs and all the remaining are in the Congress-JD (S) camp, it is unconstitutional and unethical for the Governor to invite the BJP to prove its majority.”
Pointing out that Governor Vajubhai Vala had provided an unusually long period of 15 days for the BJP to prove its majority, he said that it would provide way for poaching through ‘horse-trading’ and other illegal means.V. Karthikeyan, president, Madurai district Congress Committee, and other functionaries took part in the protest.
