Seeking to strengthen the maritime security in the Palk Bay, Gulf of Mannar and Adam’s Bridge, the Mandapam Station of Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has rebased ICG Interceptor Boat C-432 at Mandapam station near here.
The vessel was built by Larsen and Toubro at its shipbuilding yard facility at Kattupalli in north Chennai in 2017. It was based in Karaikal and rebased in Mandapam on Friday for enhancement of coastal security in the Palk Bay and Gulf of Mannar, Commandant M. Venkatesan, Station Commander, ICG Mandapam said.
Receiving the 27 meter long and 7 meter wide vessel arrived at Mandapam at 4. 30 p.m., he said the boat would be commanded by Deputy Commandant V. K. Singh. Thirteen crew members would be onboard the vessel, which was specially designed for shallow water operation, he said.
“Maritime security along the Palk Bay, Gulf of Mannar and Adam’s Bridge will be strengthened on joining this high speed interceptor boat at Mandapam,” Commandant Venkatesan said.
