MADURAI

The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Monday directed the State government to file a comprehensive report on dengue and swine flu outbreak in Tamil Nadu.

A Division Bench of Justices K.K. Sasidharan and P.D. Audikesavalu directed the Department of Health and Family Welfare to file a report on the number of cases reported so far, deaths and the steps taken to control dengue and swine flu. The report should be submitted by November 20, the next date of hearing.

The petitioner, K.K. Ramesh of Madurai, had filed the public interest litigation petition seeking a direction to the government to take effective steps to control dengue and swine flu. He said the government was duty bound to ensure basic sanitation and proper medical care, and also sought a direction to hospitals to be stocked with adequate medicines to treat patients.
