HC quashes cases against former Minister

June 03, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 06:00 am IST - MADURAI:

The Madras High Court Bench here has quashed as many as nine cases registered by Sivaganga district police against former AIADMK Minister R.S. Raja Kannappan on charges of violating election code of conduct when he contested from Tiruppattur constituency in the 2011 Assembly elections.

The police had accused him of offences such as using loudspeakers without permission and utilising more than permitted number of vehicles during campaigning.

Justice M.M. Sundresh set aside the cases on the ground that the police had not shown interest in pursuing the cases though more than four years had elapsed since they were booked.
