The Madurai Bench of Madras High Court has directed Virudhunagar district authorities to remove encroachments on the banks of Pannikundu tank in Tiruchuli.

A Division Bench of Justices T.S. Sivagnanam and R. Tharani ordered the removal of the encroachments based on a petition filed by Ramaiyan of Virudhunagar district.

The petitioner said the encroachments were recent and a representation was made to the authorities concerned in this regard. However, with no steps being initiated by the authorities concerned, he filed the petition before the High Court.

Ordering the removal of the encroachments, the court said necessary police protection should be provided.
