Ganja oil seized, one held

For the first time, the police seized a liquid weighing a little over one kg from a man identified as a native of Kerala who confessed that it was extracted from ganja leaves and was intended for smuggling to Sri Lanka.

Following heightened surveillance, police received specific input that a man was carrying liquid, allegedly a drug variety, and that he was about to hand it over to an agent on Sunday.

Superintendent of Police E. Karthik deployed a team led by DSP Raja. When they secured the suspect identified as Sabeeque, 28, of Nedumankadu, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, he reportedly confessed to having contact with a man in Yerwadi.

It is said that the man from Kerala got in touch with his contact in Yerwadi, when he had stayed there for about two months for treatment of his wife. During the stay, Sabeeque was told about the plan to smuggle ganja and that he had suggested it in oil form extracted from the leaves The seized goods was intended to be sold for ₹50 lakh, police said and added that whether it was to be taken to Sri Lanka or some other destination was under investigation.

They were on the look out for the accomplice in Yerwadi. After securing the man, police would register a case and also send the narcotic substance to the laboratory, they added.
