The Tamil Nadu Railway Police (TRP) has arrested five persons in connection with placing of concrete sleeper across railway track near Rajapalayam on September 13. The Chennai-Pothigai Superfast Express train that hit the sleeper, however, escaped without much damage.

The police said that five persons, all belonging to Senthattiyapuram, had placed the sleeper along with two pieces of rails on the track near the bridge across Solaiseri river in Sankarankoil Taluk of Tirunelveli district. They wanted to express their protest against the Sunday's police firing in Paramakudi, the police said.

A special team led by the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Karthikeyan, arrested the accused.
