Explanation sought from PWD for using drone

Joint Director of Periyar Tiger Reserve Shilpa Kumar has sought an explanation from the Tamil Nadu Public Works Department for operating a drone camera during a government function in Thekkady on Thursday in which the Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam participated.

In order to cater to the irrigation needs of over 14,707 acres of double crop area in Theni district, the Deputy Chief Minister released water from Periyar dam at Thekkady. It is alleged that a drone camera was used to document the event.

However, since the shutters of the dam are located inside the Periyar Tiger Reserve, permission must be given by Joint Director of the reserve for using a drone camera.
