NAGERCOIL

BJP cadre staged a demonstration in Nagercoil on Wednesday seeking detention of two French journalists and their associates under the National Security Act for allegedly visiting Indian Rare Earths Limited campus at Manavalakurichi, Department of Atomic Energy’s high security zone, and taking photographs.

They burnt an effigy of a retired civil servant, who allegedly met the French journalists, Arthur Bouvart and Jules Giraudat, during their stay here and tried to burn an effigy of Rev. Fr. Kildos, parish priest of Mela Manakkudi, who accompanied the journalists.

Meanwhile, journalists Anandakumar and Sriram, who were summoned to appear before Kanniyakumari Deputy Superintendent of Police Bhaskaran on Wednesday for allegedly helping the French journalists, did not turn up. “They neither turned up nor submitted any representation justifying their inability to appear before the investigation officer,” said Superintendent of Police N. Shreenath.
