Demand for action against GRH deaths

May 09, 2019 11:30 pm | Updated 11:30 pm IST - MADURAI

Members of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) petitioned Collector S. Nagarajan on Thursday demanding action against those responsible for power failure at Government Rajaji Hospital on Tuesday, which allegedly resulted in the death of three patients.

In a symbolic protest to indicate that the patients reportedly died due to lack of oxygen supply with the failure ventilators, the members wore oxygen mask when they entered the Collectorate to submit the petition.

T. Selva, Madurai district secretary, DYFI, said that the State government must compensate the families of the deceased since the deaths happened due to negligence in ensuring uninterrupted power supply. The organisation demanded that a review be conducted at all the government hospitals to ensure uninterrupted power supply so that such incidents did not recur.
