Senior Congress leader, P. Chidamabaram failed to get adequate funds for the development of Tamil Nadu when he was the Union Finance Minister, said Chief Minister, Edappadi K. Palaniswami.
Addressing voters at Virudhunagar seeking votes for DMDK candidate, R. Azhagarsamy, (for Virudhunagar Lok Sabha seat) here on Friday, Mr. Palaniswami said that the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam is seeking votes on its achievements and welfare schemes implemented for the people.
However, since Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president, M.K. Stalin, is not able to cite any achievements during the DMK rule he is indulging in flaying the Chief Minster and the Ministers, he said.
“What has Tamil Nadu achieved when DMK was in power in the Centre for 15 years”, he asked.
Mr. Palaniswamy said that every effort is being taken to safeguard the fireworks industry. Minister for Dairy Development, K. T. Rajendra Bhalaji was personally involved in following up the hearings in Supreme Court in the case relating to charges of pollution caused by fireworks.
“The State Government has appointed a senior lawyer to fight the case,” he said.
While seeking votes for Puthiya Tamilagam candidate for Tenkasi Lok Sabha Seat, K. Krishnasamy, at Srivilliputtur, he said that the candidate comes with a rich experience as a Member of Legislative Assembly.
“He will raise all the issues of the constituency in the Parliament and get them done,” the Chief Minister said.
He said that the State Government has given top priority in water management and has desilted thousands of tanks under Kudimaramathu scheme.
At Kariapatti, Mr. Palaniswami promised to construct a manimandapam for freedom fighters, Marudhu Brothers, at their birth place, N. Mukkulam.
He was canvassing votes for the BJP candidate, Nainar Nagendran, for Ramanathapuram Lok Sabha constituency.
“We need an Iron Man like Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, to safeguard the country from the adversaries,” he said. The Chief Minister said that being friendly with the Centre was to get more funds and development of the State.
Besides, housing schemes for the urban and rural poor, free power for the weavers, free power up to 100 units for all households, he promised to increase the number of days under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee scheme to 200 days.
Ministers, R. B. Udhayakumar, Rajendra Bhalaji, and Manikandan, accompanied the Chief Minister during his tour.
