Municipal Administration Commissioner G. Prakash has said that by December-end, excluding Chennai, 124 municipalities and 11 Corporations would get garbage collection vehicles valued ₹ 248 crore.

He was in the city to dedicate 19-solar powered garbage collection vehicles at the Corporation office on Saturday.

Asked about the Ariyanayagipuram combined water supply scheme, which is being carried out at a cost of ₹225 crore, he said, it would ensure water supply to all households. About 45% of the work had been completed, he said.

Further, he said that the underground drainage projects would be completed within two to three years as they were in different phases of progress.

Corporation Commissioner V. Narayan Nair, who gave away about nine tonnes of organic manure created from household waste to farmers, said that bio-fertilizer was being produced in 45 centres.

He said that many public places, including the Tirunelveli junction bus stand and Palayamkottai Gandhi market, were being given a facelift, and that new commercial spaces and parking lots were being created at the exhibition grounds at a total cost of around ₹700 crore under the Smart Cities Mission.
