The Vadamadurai police, retrieved a body, charred beyond recognition from inside a burnt car at Velayudhampalayam Pass, near here, on Monday.

The car has been identified as belonging to one M. Siva, 27, of Koviloor, near Vadamadurai. Siva had allegedly driven his car to Thoppupatti village on Sunday night to watch a Karagattam show and hadn’t returned till Monday morning.

But, the car was found in a highly burnt condition and a charred body was recovered from inside the car under mysterious circumstances, in a remote location on a hill road near Velayudhampalayam, away from the main road.

Superintendent of Police, Dindigul, R. Sakthivel visited the spot. A post mortem of the body was carried out.

The Vadamadurai police are investigating whether this could be a murder, as the body and car were found in a location unrelated to the route the victim had taken to Thoppupatti on Sunday night, an officer said. “Since, the body and car were found in suspicious circumstances, we have filed a case under section 174 of the CrPc.

The police were in the process of gathering some clues and once the post mortem report was ready, the next course of investigation shall be taken up,” said a police official.
