Boy injured in mysterious blast

November 05, 2011 09:51 am | Updated 09:52 am IST - TIRUNELVELI:

A mysterious explosion near Tenkasi on Thursday evening in which a school boy sustained injuries has triggered suspicion among the police that the explosive material might have been meant for use against senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader L.K. Advani during his Jan Chetna Yatra at Tenkasi, but discarded later.

When M. Abdul Mujeeb (14) of Paimpozhil near Tenkasi took the discarded device from garbage near a mosque in his village and connected it to a battery on Thursday evening, it exploded. He was injured on his face, hands and abdomen and has been admitted to Hospital.

Police sources believe that the device was a detonator.
