BJP leader Pon. Radhakrishnan on Friday welcomed the outcome of Sri Lankan Presidential election and congratulated Maithripala Sirisena for his victory. He warned the Congress and other parties not to ignite Tamil sentiments for political gains since the people knew which party was in power when the genocide took place.
Addressing a press conference here, he said the BJP need not feel embarrassed by the election result since Prime Minister Narendra Modi had extended his good wishes to Rajapaksa ahead of the poll only as a sign of our culture. “The genocide in Sri Lanka was very painful and Mr Modi too was aware of how innocent Indians faced agony. But, there was nothing wrong in a Prime Minister wishing a country’s President. Today, Mr Modi had congratulated the new President also for his victory,” he said.
