Battery operated vehicles flagged off by Minister

Minister for Information Technology M. Manikandan flagged off battery operated light motor vehicles, acquired by the Ramanathapuram Municipality for collecting and disposing solid waste and to improve sanitation and cleanliness.

At a brief function at the municipality here on Saturday, the Minister flagged off 25 vehicles in the presence of Collector K. Veera Raghava Rao and Municipal Commissioner Subbiah and newly elected Paramakudi MLA Sadan Prabakaran.

The municipality had acquired the vehicles at a total cost of ₹61.80 lakh under the solid waste management scheme. The vehicles would help to quickly collect and remove solid wastes in more than 25 wards and keep the municipality clean, said the Municipal Commissioner.

Mr. Manikandan said after several years, roads in the municipality were re-laid and renovated at a total cost of ₹17 crore. In the current years, road development works would be taken up at a cost of ₹10 crore, he said. Daily drinking water supply was being maintained in the municipality, he added.
