Madurai Collector S. Natarajan on Tuesday stressed for stringent enforcement of restrictions during the Marudhupandiar Guru Puja and Thevar Jayanthi events coming up later this month and appealed for cooperation from the public participating in the event.
In the consultation meeting organised with officials and representatives of various outfits here regarding the preparatory measures to be taken for the events, Collector asked officials not to grant any exemption to the regulations so as to ensure that no untoward incidents took place.
While the Marudhupandiar Guru Puja, which marks the death anniversary of the Marudhu brothers is observed on October 27, 2018 at their memorial in Kalaiyarkoil in Sivaganga district, the birth anniversary of Muthuramalinga Thevar is observed at Pasumpon in Ramanathapuram district on October 30, 2018.
Apart from thousands of people expected to visit these places from and via Madurai district, large number of people are also expected to pay homage to the statues of Marudhu brothers and Muthuramalinga Thevar in Madurai city.
A statement issued by the district administration said that all the restrictions that were being followed for the past few years will continue to be in place this year.
People will not be allowed to visit these places in open vehicles, including motorbikes, mini trucks, and tractors. All permissible vehicles must apply and obtain passes from the jurisdictional police stations of the places from where they commence the journey, the statement said.
Similarly, people will not be allowed to carry crackers or sickle, machetes and other such weapons. Police officials were asked to register cases against any violation of the restrictions at the meeting.
IG visits Pasumpon
Collector K. Veera Raghava Rao and Inspector General of Police (south zone) K. P. Shanmuga Rajeswaran discussed general and security arrangements for the peaceful conduct of the 111th birth anniversary and 56th death anniversary of freedom fighter Muthuramalinga Thevar, scheduled to be held at in Pasumpon.
They visited the Thevar memorial at Pasumpon on Tuesday and discussed the general preparedness and security arrangements for the event. After inspecting the memorial, the entry and exit points for general public, VIPs and leaders of political parties and venues for distributing ‘Annadhanam’, Mr. Rao instructed the officials to maintain tight vigil and ensure that the event passed off peacefully.
The Collector also instructed the officials to ensure adequate barricading for crowd management and repairing of roads leading to the memorial.
