Four top positions in Madurai Kamaraj University, which were being held by persons as ‘in charge’ for the past several months, were filled on Friday after approval by the University’s Syndicate that met on the same day.
V. Chinniah has been appointed as the new Registrar, J. Vijayadurai as Director of Distance Education (DDE), O. Ravi as Controller of Examinations and M. Rajarajan as Additional Controller of Examinations.
While Mr. Chinniah, Mr. Vijayadurai and Mr. Rajarajan took charge on Friday, soon after the Syndicate approved their appointments, Mr. Ravi is yet to take charge since he has to formally get relieved from Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar College in Usilampatti, where he serves as the Head of the Department of Mathematics.
Mr. Chinniah, a Professor with the School of Business Studies, was already serving as the Registrar in charge ever since the present Vice-Chancellor P.P. Chellathurai took charge last May. The post of Registrar has been held by persons as in charge for almost two years after the removal of N. Rajasekar from the post in October 2015.
Mr. Vijayadurai, an Associate Professor with School of Business Studies, was presently serving as Additional Controller of Examination in charge. The tenure of previous DDE J. Balan came to an end last May, following which V. Kalaiselvan from School of English and Foreign Languages was appointed as DDE in charge.
Mr. Rajarajan, who was earlier associated with Cardamom Planters’ Association College in Bodinayakkanur, has also served as a Syndicate member in MKU and a member of the Convener’s Committee that was overseeing the administration of MKU when the post of V-C was lying vacant after previous V-C Kalyani Mathivanan’s tenure ended.
University sources said that separate committees, which were formed to select the appointees for each of these four posts, interviewed the applicants on MKU premises on Wednesday and Thursday. The names finalised by them were approved by the Syndicate meeting chaired by the VC on Friday.
Sources said that the Dean (College Development Council), which is also being held by a Professor as in charge, will be appointed soon.
