The organisational elections of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam that began here on Sunday witnessed a stray incident of two groups hurling chairs at each other.
The election to the posts of secretaries of 100 wards in the urban district unit began with filing of nomination papers.
Former Minister and Ramanathapuram MP Anwar Raja is supervising the election process in the city.
At one of the centres in Sellur, members of two groups hurled chairs at each other. Some cadre shouted that they were denied the nomination forms. However, Chairman of Corporation Zone II K. Jeyavel pacified them.
The police did not register any case as no complaint was lodged, a police officer said.
The party had decided to “elect” the secretaries “unanimously” through “peace negotiations”, a party source said.
