Superintendent of Police R. Rohit Nathan has urged the police to act swiftly against all illegal activities and reach out to the public and redress their grievances.

“Introduction of new technologies to curb crimes, tightening illegal activities, speeding up of registration of FIRs and reducing fatal road accidents have been identified as focus areas,” the SP said. The police have launched crack down on illegal sand quarrying, illegal sale of liquor and drunken driving, he said.

He introduced WhatsApp number 8608600100 for the public to post their complaints and grievances. Public could alert the police on anti-social and illegal activities by posting videos, pictures and messages in the number.

The police would be encouraged to use modern technologies to curb and detect crimes, he said adding e-beat (electronic beat) system would be rolled out in the first phase to monitor the beat police personnel and fine tune their services. CCTV cameras would be installed at all strategic locations in the district to curb criminal activities.

After the SP stepped up the drive on ‘focus areas,’ the police registered 13 illegal sand quarrying cases, booked 29 people and seized 19 vehicles last week, a press release said. In the drive against sale of liquor in bars, the police have booked 27 people in 21 cases.

The police have seized ₹1.25 lakh after arresting 35 people in five gambling cases. In a special drive against drunken driving on July 6, they registered cases against 307 people. All illegal bars in the district would be shut down and drunken driving would be dealt with severely.

Following complaints from the public on delay in registering FIRs in several police stations, he conducted a training programme to speed up registering FIRs on July 4. He honoured 10 police offices who secured the top five places in the training with cash awards.
